The Kast

Dre, Mr. 3000, if you’re reading this:

I, as an artist, understand the need to redefine one’s own boundaries, break molds, and such… But sometimes experimentation, like traveling, brings you full circle… home to the place you love and are most comfortable; the castle of which you will always be king. If this one song is a passing bolt of creative lightening, I say hop aboard that bolt and strike down those that ever began to doubt your Insane Genius.

This Boy can still rip with that Boi.

p.s. (what i’m tryin to say is… I grew up listening to these cats, imitating them with ek, obsessing over verses (with ek), priding myself (ourselves, with ek, again) on the fact they come from my city, watching every move, and continually being inspired by them. for god’s sake i see dre all the damn time at whole foods on briarcliff and get so nervous i can’t ever say [sic] hey ya. all i gotta say is, its been a long time since i heard this boy bust (for real) and when he does, there is NO ONE that holds a candle in hip hop right now. and if this is just a one shot deal, i’m better for it. i’m on my 17th listen and can almost recite dre’s entire verse!)

p.p.s (big up to gorillavsbear for providing me with the link.  top music blog on the web period.)

Atl Mag Cover - Dec Issue

Article

Well, well, well….

In the venerable words of one Mark Kelly, “It’s not often one gets to say they are the very best at what they do…”

Thanks to ATLANTA Magazine, we can now say that Esperanza Clothing Co. is “Best of Atlanta: Shopping (ATL-Inspired Tees).”

Man, that feels good.  But you know what’s gonna feel better?  Holding the plaque we get in honor of this distinction.  No really, we get a physical award for this!  I can’t remember the last time I got a trophy, let alone one for first place…  move over Winner: St. John Neumann Sixth Grade Free Throw Contest.

In all honesty, we’re psyched about this and would like to thank Atlanta Magazine for the recognition.

So what else…

Look for Esperanza Clothing Co. in Creative Loafing’s Holiday Gift Guide for the second year in a row and keep checking the website for some pre-order opportunities on new winter gear.

And since I haven’t posted much of anything in a while, here’s a mini best of list of mine right now:

Best Dubstep Album 2007:  Burial – Untrue

An excellent work that will most definitely spoil new-comers to the Dubstep sound, because it don’t get much better.  I’ve been getting pretty lost in this while working a lot on the computer recently.  I highly recommend a good set of headphones for this baby…  really rich, textured music.

Best New Restaurant I Went To and Actually Really Liked the First Time 2007: Beleza

Beleza

From the guy who brought you Sotto Sotto and Fritti…  I’m not gonna get deep down and start explaining everything I had and why it was delicious, but I will tell you to start with a Derby Smash (i think that what it was called, a fancy twist on a Mint Julep) and definitely try the halibut.  The menu changes, so I hope that’s still relevant…  but our food was so good, I hardly believe anything really isn’t.  Plus Ken, a chef there, is a real top guy and can recommend a great dinner.  You can’t miss him as the line is on the other side of the bar.

Best Movie 2007: The Darjeeling Limited

Just go see this immediately.  It’s at Tara right now, but I’m not sure how much longer it will be there.  I’m a Wes Anderson nut, so I really can’t give an honest review… but I loved it and you better.   If anything I can promise you its better than Fred Claus.

Alright kids, time for bed.  Probably gonna grab a drink in the Highlands tomorrow night if anyone would like to buy me a congratulatory beer.  Have a great Thanksgiving, eats lots of bird, fall asleep on the couch at seven, etc…

The Old Ball and Chain

November 16, 2007

wedding.jpg

Greetings fellow Esperanza-ites. Please give our fellow Esperanza comrad Daniel a resounding round of applause for marrying his dream girl on Oct 27. The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was craaazy. Let’s just put it this way, the man knows how to throw a party. I think it might be ingrained in his DNA. A good time was had by all and we wish Daniel and Meri the best. They are actually on part 2 of their honeymoon which puts them in Phuket, Thailand. They will get to see our best friend Ryan Nerone who has been living in Phuket for 8 months now and who will shit a brick when he sees that Daniel brought him Sweetwater Festive Ale as well as Sweetwater Road Trip which he has never tasted. We miss you Ryan! Daniel, get crazy, but not so crazy that you don’t make it home. I don’t want to turn on the news and see you gettind caned. Anywho, We have some new and cool stuff on the way, so stay posted.

Esperanza Clothing adds 15th and 16th store in ATLANTA!!!

November 16, 2007

Esperanza Clothing is on a rampage in the city of Atlanta adding its 15th and 16th store in the city of Atlanta.  Recently added, 1.5.O (http://www.150atlanta.com/1FIVE0/Home.html) which is named appropriately because all merchandise is under $150, 1*FIVE*0 is a destination for shoppers seeking the unconventional style provided by the up-and=coming designer labels in stock.

Also added is the new Threadhouse(http://www.atlantamagazine.com/article.aspx?id=17664) in the new Plaza Midtown complex.  Threadhouse opened earlier this year by popular Fever and Compound deejay Scott Cannon…neverheard of him(I’m more of an MJQ/Star Bar/Northside Tavern guy) …..but his new store will certainly be a spot where Esperanza Clothing will sell well.

So check out the new spots where Esperanza continues to branch out.

Absente Reo

November 6, 2007

While my venerable partner and his beautiful new bride globe-trot in the haze of newlywed-ism, the One EK and I have been hard at work getting Esperanza Clothing into a boutique near you and making sure that you guys have fresh new ish to look foward to…  okay, I’m exhausted and my eyes are bloodshot beyond repair from staring at a computer screen all night.  Without further adieu, a sneak peak at shit-hot new Esperanza Clothing.  Drumrol…ahhh forget it.

Singapore and Thailand ROCK!!!

November 2, 2007

So I am on the Beach in Phuket, Thailand just after being in Singapore for 3 days and this place is amazing. The people here are by far the nicest people in the world. Everyone is so generous, respectful, happy, and hard working. I took a boat tour all around Singapore and saw the largest harbor in the world. I went to a night Safari where I stood 10 ft from 3 huge Lion that roared at me, and then stood next to 6 Laughing Hyenas(sp?)….and it was ALL AT NIGHT around 10pm with only a few flood lights. Very cool!!!

So now I am in Phuket Thailand, and I am about to meet up with our long lost Esperanza com padre, Ryan Nerone aka Neroni aka Neboner aka Treeback aka the Singapore Sling. We brought an Esperanza care package for him but he beat me to the punch and had a Neroni care package waiting for me at my hotel(http://www.hiltonworldresorts.com/Resorts/Phuket/index.html) with straight up Thai threads from local clothing companies.

Also, I hopped in the elevator and who walks in, one of the best womens volleyball players in the world, Kerri Walsh. She was tall as shit. She was very nice but a little to tall for me. I enjoyed the Brasilien womens team better. There is a hug etourney here in front of my hotel with the top 20 players in the world competing…..and they are all staying at my hotel….so lots of giant women around.

Well I will post again tomorrow with some pics from Maya Phi Phi Island which is the Island from “The Beach” and “James Bond The Man with the Golden Gun.

PEACE OUT—-
